Senior Expert Bioinformatics
Senior Bioinformatics Expert/Scientist within the Quantitative Science and Statistics group. Working in a highly collaborative environment, the successful candidate will build and develop bioinformatics support to next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and platforms in advancing cell and gene therapy platform. Job Description MyOme is looking for a bioinformatician to join the team and help expand the role of genetic information in personal and family health decisions. You will collaborate with the research and engineering teams to develop and implement analytic pipelines, computational analysis, and interpretation of biological data. We are looking for an experienced bioinformatician or data scientist with a strong background in human genetics. This role will report directly to a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist. Biochemistry & Molecular Biology has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Bioinformatics Analyst position. The incumbent is available within the Telonis lab at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Miami, Florida for a basic research project studying the role of gene architecture in regulating gene expression in normal physiology and in disease, including cancer. Our previous work has demonstrated that stem cells express genes of a specific architecture and retrotransposon content but as stem cells differentiate they express genes with a different underlying structure, particularly of the respective introns (BMC Biol 2021 19(1):60; Nat Commun 13(1):6524). We are seeking a highly talented and motivated computer scientist to join the lab. The candidate should demonstrate expertise in software development, with emphasis in algorithms analyzing biological “omic” data, e.g. RNA-sequencing, ATAC-seq, HiC, ChIP-seq. Prior experience in machine learning (artificial intelligence, AI) is preferred but not required. It is expected that the candidate will have the ability to develop, curate and maintain novel AI-based computational pipelines or apply existing bioinformatic tools for biological discovery. Bioinformatics Analyst (Remote)
Description ICF seeks a Bioinformatics Analyst to support and grow our Health Analytics, Research, and Technology (HART) line of business. As a Bioinformatics Analyst, the successful candidate will perform data analysis and curation activities and support bioinformatics requirements for our clients within the federal government. This position will be responsible for data processing including interpreting, curating, and harmonizing clinical, genomic, proteomic and metabolomic data associated with tumor characterization from large scale proteogenomic programs. Responsibilities: • Provide bioinformatics services to assist scientific problem-solving in a broad range of research topics. • Analyze large molecular datasets such as proteomic data, and genomic data for clinical or basic research purposes. • Assist with the data curation activities for the scientific databases including working with scientists, publication research, and verification. • Provide support for approaches, processes, and methods for the management, integration, analysis, and visualization of data from different data sources. • Assist in management of genomic, proteomic, and other multiomic data and annotation resources. • Standardize the biomedical data using common data elements, terminologies, and controlled vocabularies • Assists in preparation of presentations at scientific meetings, documentation for scientific processes. • Develop custom scripts and software to automate scientific data analysis using Python, Per/BioPerl, R, and/or Java. • Assist in the development and maintenance of specialized, high-performance databases for different aspects of ‘omics analysis. Professor and Cluster Lead, Genomics and Bioinformatics Cluster
The Opportunity The Faculty Cluster Initiative (FCI) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) is recruiting for a 9-month tenured professor who will act as the lead for the Genomics and Bioinformatics Cluster (https://www.ucf.edu/research/genomics-bioinformatics/). This position has an anticipated start date of August 8, 2025. An ideal candidate should have a strong background in genomics and bioinformatics, and in computational approaches used to analyze large genomic datasets. The candidate should have demonstrable leadership experience, preferably with multidisciplinary teams, and a strong record of continual extramural funding. The new Genomics and Bioinformatics Cluster lead can join any of three host departments – The Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences (College of Medicine), Biology (College of Sciences), or Computer Science (College of Engineering and Computer Science); or be jointly appointed among them as appropriate to qualifications and interest. The cluster lead will be expected to develop a research program that strengthens their tenure home department and the cluster. To be eligible for appointment as a tenured professor upon hire, the selected candidate must have a demonstrated record of teaching, research, service, and leadership commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of professor, in the applicable tenure home. POSITION OVERVIEW This position will serve as a Bioinformatics analyst & coordinator at the PHL and be involved with sequencing and data management activities within the bureau. RESPONSIBILITIES • Support onboarding pipelines & data management for current and emerging pathogens such as Tuberculosis, Carbapenem-resistant organisms, and other pathogens. This requires strong skills in BASH shell scripting and R. Python and SQL are good to have skills. • Manage the packaging and publishing of genomic sequences to public repositories such as NCBI and GISAID. • Lead and/or support the data unit in maintaining meta-data datasets for genomic sequences. • Coordinate the implementation and enhancements of high throughput sequencing and bioinformatics projects. • Participate in analytical activities as needed to support outbreak investigations and routine surveillance. • Perform research to identify and implement new analytical tools and visualization methods. • Assist with progress reports to ensure projects run smoothly. • Liaise between units and sections at PHL to identify, prioritize, and finalize goals for pathogen sequencing. • Lead efforts to improve sustainable data management and tracking across multiple units and bureaus. • Communicate effectively with lab technologists and analysts as well as internal and external partners. • Evaluate data, prepare reports, maintain records, and assist in the coordination of research efforts of the Agency. • Maintain and participate in a quality control and assurance program as required by job functions and title assignments in the laboratory. • Recognize, troubleshoot, and initiate corrective action for problems in a timely manner. • Participate in writing original manuscripts for publication based on data analyses. Overview • The Genomics Research Canter (GRC) is a centre of excellence for genetics and genomics that supports both Discovery and Development. • The GRC plays an integral role towards our goal of developing extraordinary genetics and genomics research, focusing on finding the right targets and helping us better understand not only human disease biology but also the behaviour of and response to our drugs in clinical trials. • Within the GRC, the Department of Bioinformatics is responsible for data analysis and provides analytical insight for both internal and external data. • This involves the identification and characterization of underlying genetic, epigenetic, or genomic factors that are associated with disease diagnosis, prognosis, and response (efficacy and safety) to drug treatment, identification of new targets, and interpretation of the impact of genetic and genomic evidence from population-based studies. • To meet these challenges, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Bioinformatics Operation Engineer role in the GRC's Bioinformatics Engineering organization, reporting to the Lead Pipeline Development Engineer. • We are seeking a candidate who will provide the critical function of automating and processing an increasing volume of genomic data through the GRC's standardized bioinformatics pipelines. Responsibilities: • Execute GRC Standardized Bioinformatics Pipelines in multiple HPC environments (Slurm-scheduler, AWS). • Work with developers to automate and streamline NGS data processing. • Communicate with Bioinformatics stakeholders to collect parameters required for executing pipelines. • Assure delivery of results and QC metrics to Bioinformatics stakeholders. • Communicate pipeline performance feedback to Bioinformatics Engineering pipeline developers. • Curate documentation and maintain detailed records of data processing procedures and results. • Perform quality control checks to ensure accurate and reliable results. Requirements: • Bachelor's or master's degree in biology related field. • Proven experience (minimum 5 years) in processing and analysing genomics data using bioinformatics pipelines in HPC Linux environments such as slurm, SGE, or AWS batch. • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, R, or Bash. • In-depth knowledge of genomics data analysis techniques, algorithms, and tools. • Familiarity with next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis. • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment. • Experience with cloud-based bioinformatics platforms preferred.
