The postdoctoral research fellow will also be co-mentored by Dr. Xuefeng Wang from Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics. The position will remain open until filled. Position Highlights: • The position is essential for development of comprehensive tools benefiting basic to clinical research through identification of novel biomarkers to treat cancer and the improved treatment stratification of cancer patients. • The postdoctoral research fellow will enjoy a close working relationship with bioinformaticians, statisticans, clinicians, translational researchers, as well as bench scientists to establish a well-rounded multidisciplinary team. • Access will be provided to curated clinical samples from practice changing clinical trials to further the understanding of the mechanisms of action of the investigational agent(s) and treatment resistance. • Access will be provided to prospective longitudinal liquid biopsy samples to conduct biomarker discovery work. • Outstanding mentorship from expert faculty with wide-ranging funded research programs including T32 Training Grants. • You will be encouraged and supported to apply for training grants. As a Bioinformatics Research Scientist within the Youngblood lab, you... will serve as an integral bridge between scientists and clinicians within the Departments of Immunology and Bone Marrow Transplantation & Cellular Therapy to help coordinate our comprehensive effort to study the epigenetic regulation of the immune system in cancer patients. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with an interest in immunology and immunotherapy for the Youngblood lab . The ideal applicant will support efficient laboratory operations such as technical support for ongoing laboratory projects including data analysis and visualization. In partnership with our client, who is a major Life Science organization, we are seeking Coop students for Spring 2024, with a flexible starting date as early as October or November 2023. The position is full-time and will last for a minimum of 6 months. The chosen applicant will be involved in various target discovery and biomarker development projects in the Immunology and/or Immuno-Oncology... therapeutic areas. An ideal candidate has: • strong background in data analytics, strong coding skills, and solid understanding of human molecular biology and immunology. • familiar with R and ideally at least one other programming language (eg, Python, Perl or Java). • Previous participation in research projects is highly desirable, as is some experience in RShiny app development. • Experience working in a Linux environment, AWS, and methodologies for reproducible research (e.g., git, markdown) would be an advantage. Students enrolled in Bioinformatics master's/PhD degree programs are strongly encouraged to apply, but students from computer science, data analytics, and related programs will be considered as well. As part of this position, the student will have the chance to conduct analyses to generate and validate scientific hypotheses, develop presentations showcasing their results, draft reports, and present their discoveries to project teams. Computational work will include benchmarking new published algorithms and packages, network and pathway analyses of gene expression, creating classifiers with AI/ML methods, building complex Rshiny app to visualize profiling data from patients with different autoimmune disorders. Past projects have focused on sorted-cell RNASeq from Lupus patients, development of the drug-specific genomic signature, analysis of the data from various single-cell technologies, building time-series models based on text-mining data, analysis of immuno-therapy effects on tumor models, and finding rational drug combinations. While specific projects will depend on the time of joining, a specific project plan will be developed for each student at the beginning of the co-op period. The student will learn how to address specific biological questions using different bioinformatics techniques as well as gain better understanding of drug development for auto-immune diseases and immuno-oncology. The student will also be able to participate in group and departmental meetings and seminars to learn about computational work at a pharmaceutical company and about all stages of drug development. The co-op program is designed to have candidates carry out impactful and reproducible research and develop interest/passion in different areas of data analytics/bioinformatics and to help improve programming and other skills. Our past alumni have become successful PhD students in top Universities, or bioinformaticians in prominent pharmaceutical companies with the help and training provided as a part of the program. CGI Federal is seeking a Bioinformatics Analyst to support a large data modernization project for a federal agency. Your future duties and responsibilities: Provide high level expertise in the application of technology to areas of interest to government health organizations including Medical Informatics; Public Health Informatics; statistics, bio-statistics, mathematics; specific tools and data resources relevant to the federal health mission Apply sound quantitative data and methods to support deployment of resources for health surveillance, disease detection, prevention and intervention campaigns and related health activities. Provide expertise across a wide variety of IT areas as applied to health, including information retrieval technology, decision science, web technology, data mining, expert systems, networking, Big Data science, and education. Provide expertise in the integration of a variety of heterogeneous information systems and databases the sharing and dissemination of health and research information; and the application of advanced scientific visualization technology to medical and health science practice. Required qualifications to be successful in this role: Bachelor's degree in Genetics, Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field. Competency in multiple key areas including machine learning and high-throughput sequencing methodology. Deep understanding of and experience in processing high throughput bioinformatics data: data cleaning, normalization, analysis, interpretation, and visualization Proficiency in at least two of the following programming languages: Python, R, Perl, Java, and C/C++ Ability to understand and analyze data from complex experimental designs Ability to work independently with minimal direction providing technical and non-technical support to multiple users Capable of working under pressure, while handling multiple tasks simultaneously Ability to work overtime and weekends required on occasion CGI is required by law in some jurisdictions to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role.
