The Position The Position... Studying microorganisms in intricate, multicomponent communities was revolutionized by multiple ‘omics technologies. We aim to leverage next generation sequencing, metabolomics, and proteomic analyses to dissect how the microbiome, the complex microbial consortium that resides in and on humans, contributes to health and disease. The Departments of Infectious Diseases and Bioinformatics at Genentech seek a talented and highly-motivated Computational Researcher who will be responsible for projects aimed at determining the mechanisms driving host-microbe interactions within the human gastrointestinal tract in multiple therapeutic areas. This is an exciting opportunity for a computationally-minded investigator to utilize clinical trial and primary ‘omics data at the intersection of microbiology, immunology, and genetics to inform the discovery of novel treatments for patients. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications • PhD in computer science, mathematics, physics or field as outlined in the essential duties; or Master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, physics or field as outlined in the essential duties plus 4 years of experience in lieu of a PhD; or Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, physics or field as outlined in the essential duties plus 6 years of experience in lieu of PhD. • 12+ years of industry or academia experience in bioinformatics. • 10+ years of experience in molecular diagnostics, medical device/IVD/Laboratory Developed Tests (LDT) development, biotech, or life science. • 4+ years of experience in oncology research or product development. • Demonstrated thought leader in the area of bioinformatics, genomics, and/or next-generation sequencing (NGS). • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of NGS data analytics, mathematical modeling, machine learning statistics, or related topics • Demonstrated experience in somatic or germline mutation calling and related tools • Demonstrated expertise in programming with R or python. • Demonstrated experience in working with high-dimensional data and dimensionality reduction techniques • Demonstrated experience in developing analytical pipelines • Demonstrated experience in working in cloud computing environment and platforms such as AWS or Databricks • Demonstrated experience in working with one more of the cloud-based source control tools • Demonstrated familiarity with collaborative platforms such as Confluence, github/gitlab, and SharePoint • Demonstrated familiarity with the concept of containerized application development • Demonstrated leadership in the area of product/assay research, design, or development. • Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
